English as a Second Language (ESL)
Sacred Heart Elementary School, Sacred Heart High School and Fountain Academy of the Sacred Heart are pleased to accept applications from international students.Applicants must demonstrate a level of proficiency in English. In addition, we also offer English as a Second Language courses.
The ESL Programme is for students from Primary to Grade 12 who are learning English as a second or other language. The ESL Programme focuses on curriculum content, language skills, and learning strategies. Students work on reading, writing, listening, speaking, critical thinking, spelling, grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary at their grade level.
Students attend small group ESL classes, three to five times a week. Following a language assessment, students are given the English support they need to understand and interact in their classes and to reach their highest potential.
For high school students, their ESL grade will contribute 20% to their total grade for English 7-11.
The goal of the ESL Programme is to help students become successful in English and in their school career. We are proud to be a multicultural school and welcome the cultures of all of our students and their families.
