Why Single Sex classes are good for girls

At Sacred Heart High School, we teach girls the way they learn best.

Girls are always centre stage. They participate, take charge, and get involved. The top scholars, the team captains, the yearbook editors — they're all girls. Girls are the ones with their hands up, using the microphone, seeking the teacher's attention, being heard. They do not have to compete for a place; they are already in first place.

Everyone has a voice in the classroom. According to recent research, many girls in our nation's co-ed classrooms do not get the attention and quality education they deserve. At Sacred Heart, the opposite is true.

The confidence they build leads to lifelong rewards. Our graduates are confident learners, critical thinkers, and self-starters. Our students are enthusiastic participants in math and science, socially aware and active, and contributing team players.

Single Sex Education Makes a Difference

  • Almost 100% of girls' school graduates go on to college.
  • Three and four years of math and science are the norm rather than the exception.
  • 98% of seniors expect to have full-time careers and four out of five say they will attend graduate school.
  • Four times as many graduates of girls' schools intend to pursue careers in math, science, and technology.
  • Almost 80% of recent alumnae surveyed cite their single-sex education as pivotal in preparing them for productive personal and professional lives.

What our teachers do unusually well

  • They understand what works well for girls in and out of the classrooms, and on the playing fields.
  • They have a history of discovering and encouraging the unique talents of each of their students.
  • They make learning and achieving in math and science the standard expectation.
  • They believe girls can do anything they put their minds to with persistence, hard work, and some risk-taking.
  • They encourage girls to have big dreams and then equip them with the skills they need to realize those dreams.
